Welcome
On behalf of our staff, volunteers and Board, I welcome you to Sexual Assault Centre London. We provide services to survivors of sexual violence in London and Middlesex County, and are committed to an anti-oppressive, anti-racist feminist perspective.
Women and men who have experienced sexual violence often feel deep shame and self-blame. Many have suffered in silence because they were afraid of not being believed or that they were responsible for the violation. Many have used alcohol or drugs to cope. The trauma that they have experienced has profoundly impacted all aspects of their lives.
We create safe spaces for survivors to:
- Tell their stories in a safe and non-judgmental environment
- Be believed and supported
- Begin to heal through counselling, support and intervention
- Develop healthy coping strategies and resilience
- Reduce isolation and build relationships with others who have experienced sexual violence
- Empower themselves to regain control of their life and experience a sense of connection again
This work is also about helping women and girls recognize and mobilize their potential as powerful agents of change, promoting equality, working in partnership, and making a difference.
It’s about rediscovering strength, hope and joy both individually and collectively.
I encourage you to explore the website to find out more about our services and how you can make a difference as a volunteer, Board member, or by making a charitable donation.
And I welcome your efforts to make a difference in ending sexual violence in the way that you can. It’s only in working together, honouring difference, valuing diversity, leaning into our discomfort and challenging ourselves and others that we will create a safe community and achieve our vision of a world without sexual violence.
In solidarity,
Executive Director
